OUR HISTORY


1966 - Founder members who had children with learning disabilities set up a playgroup. This soon became Mid Warwickshire Mencap a registered charity.
 
1974 - The charity then set up a Special Needs Unit at Ridgeway School.
 
1989 - In conjunction with the Health Authority acquired a large Victorian house in Leamington Spa and became a hostel for people with learning disabilities leaving hospital.
 
1990's - Developed Core and Cluster scheme and was first in the area to develop Outreach services for people to receive support in their own homes. Residential homes were redeveloped into separate supported living units.
 
2013 - Closure of Local Authority day services. Way Ahead established new activity services 'Streets Ahead' at Royal Naval Association.
 
2014 - Took over a charity for people with mental ill health, Netherfield, based in Lillington.
